In 2019 Renu Hossain co-curated a 3-day sold-out festival – ‘SPAЯK’ at the illustrious Studio Я at Gorki Theatre Berlin.
SPAЯK a new, intimate music festival of Berlin-based and unternational musicians of femme, queer, of-Color, non-binary, working-class, post-migrant identities. Inspired by the pioneering radio units – Spark Gap Transmitters – SPAЯK is a resonance that exists during the midnight radio hour. This is where the weird, the queer, the loud, the mad, the bizarre and the dreamy prevails. Seven concerts and three DJ acts on three evenings. Psychedelic orchestrated folk-funk fusions, to queerified synth pop and 21st century Electronic anthems, postcolonial multi-percussion live odysseys to freestyle Hip-Hop spits, accapella and high pitched voices to real-time audio synthesis. Headlining with Berlin extraordinaire artists HATAM, RENU, Mary Ocher, and Tami T, SPAЯK is a boundaries-smashing endeavour aiming at deconstructing and disrupting music hegemony.
